Igor, a Des Moines-based creator of smart building automation solutions, today announced the addition of Edwin “Chip” Poland as director of technical support.
Poland, a 35-year veteran of the commercial electrical contractor and lighting control industries joins Igor from Enlighted, Inc., and will oversee Igor’s field technical support and project management teams. He will report to Jack Schroeder, Igor vice president, technical support services.
Poland’s expertise in commercial lighting controls and deep knowledge of the commercial electrical contractor business will be instrumental to Igor’s delivery of exceptional customer experiences during the installation of its smart building solutions. His thorough understanding of Internet of Things (IoT) smart building technology will ensure Igor delivers a superior smart building design and implementation experience for both the building owner and electrical contractor tasked with installation responsibility. Poland will further develop the Igor team and support processes to ensure all Igor channel business partners have what they need to successfully deploy Igor smart building solutions.

Poland’s deep experience in the commercial lighting industry is composed of training and education of best practice lighting and lighting control systems design, proposals development and financial analysis, as well as development and implementation of advanced lighting installations. He has held a variety of key positions with leading companies, including Enlighted, DNV GL, Sylvania Lighting Services Corp., Genesis Lighting Management Services and Arlington Electric Construction Company. Poland also founded and served as president of Light and Power, Inc., an electrical and lighting solutions company.
Throughout his career, Poland has supported full sales and installation cycles, while also leading lighting auditors, specifiers and design teams in providing turnkey project deliverables. Some of the companies he has collaborated with on lighting design projects include Safety-Kleen, Home Run Inn Pizza and McDonald’s. He also developed and implemented the nationally recognized midstream ComEd BILD program, has served as a member of the DLC Industry Advisory Committee and has supported multiple research projects with leading centers for technological innovations.
Poland is an author of two industry books and a graduate of the Decker School of Electrical Estimating and Advance Aces sales training. He also studied mechanical engineering at LeTournea College in Longview, Texas.
