Hyundai’s new Sonata hybrid is a compelling choice amongst other popular mid-size sedans, and it does exceptionally well in our fuel economy test. That, along with an upscale interior and loads of technology help it compete with the Honda Accord, but its driving dynamics don’t hold up.

The Sonata hybrid is powered by a 150-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder paired with an electric motor and battery pack that combine to make 192 horsepower.

It uses a six-speed automatic transmission compared to the Honda Accord hybrid’s one-speed direct-drive transmission.

In our test, the Sonata hybrid reached 60 mph in 8.1 seconds, a full second slower than the Accord hybrid.
