Haynes Solar, a division of MB Haynes, has been contracted for the largest solar project portfolio in Buncombe County, North Carolina. The 43 projects consist of four for the City of Asheville and 39 for the County. Sites include schools, fire stations, government buildings, parking decks and libraries as well as five installations at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College.
“Buncombe County is proud to be partnering with a great local company such as MB Haynes for the engineering, procurement and construction of this ground-breaking renewable energy project. This project will not only save county taxpayers millions in energy costs but will also help us accelerate the transition to clean, renewable energy,” said Brownie Newman, Buncombe County Commission Chairman.
The 6.06-MW portfolio should be completed by the end of 2023, although Haynes Solar has a goal to complete it sooner.
“When Mr. Haynes started his electrical business 100 years ago, I don’t think he could have imagined that one day we’d be harvesting electrical energy from the sun,” said Fred Lewis, MB Haynes president and CEO. “We have enjoyed long-term success because we are not stuck in the past. Throughout our century of service, we have been on the cutting edge of electrical technology. We are pleased to have this opportunity to make a long-lasting positive impact to the community we call home.”
