Overview
Genesis is readying a second electric model for its lineup of luxury cars, this time in the form of the GV60 crossover. The GV60 will share a platform with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6 SUVs and will sit alongside the Electrified G80 sedan when it goes on sale sometime next year. The GV60 incorporates styling elements found in other Genesis models, but it lacks the brand’s large trapezoidal grille that stretches between the dual-element headlamps, substituting a slimmer lower grille across the front bumper. Inside, the GV60’s cabin looks decidedly premium, with a large monolithic display screen serving as both gauge cluster and infotainment system.
What’s New for 2023?
The GV60 will be a new model for Genesis and the brand’s third SUV when it hits the market. Genesis says U.S. deliveries are expected to start sometime in 2022, which leads us to believe those cars will be marked as 2023 models.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
Genesis has not released any information about pricing or said what features will be standard and optional on the GV60. We expect a starting price around $55,000, which will help the new SUV compete directly with rivals such as the upcoming Audi Q4 e-tron, the Volvo XC40 Recharge, and the coupe-like C40 Recharge. When we learn more about how the GV60 will be priced and equipped, we’ll update this story with more details.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Three different powertrains will be offered, starting with a rear-wheel drive setup that consists of one 225-hp electric motor and graduating to an all-wheel drive arrangement with dual motors making a combined 314-hp. A performance model will also be offered with two motors, standard all-wheel drive, and a combined horsepower rating of 429. Genesis claims that top model will be capable of hitting 60 mph in just 4.0 seconds.
Range, Charging, and Battery Life
The EPA hasn’t weighed in yet, but Genesis says the base rear-wheel drive GV60 will offer the most driving range per charge at an estimated 280 miles. Going with all-wheel drive drops the range estimate to 249 miles per charge and if you want to performance model, the range for that one is a claimed 229 miles. All versions come with the same 77.4-kWh battery pack.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
As the smallest SUV in the Genesis lineup, the GV60 isn’t as spacious as the larger GV70 and GV80 models. However, it offers a unique interior design that’s more high-tech in its appearance. Genesis has taken some chances here and integrated some cool motifs and features, including a gear selector that flips upside down when in park and has the appearance of a crystal ball. The GV60 also boasts some novel tech, such as a facial recognition system that allows the owner to unlock and start the vehicle without needing a key. Other biometric tech such as fingerprint readers are also incorporated into the SUV’s design.
