Smart poles are a transformative technology that is set to replace the more than 300 million traditional street lights installed around the world. As a critical component of Smart City infrastructure, Smart Poles offer an array of services including programmable LED lighting, IP video surveillance, air quality monitoring, digital signage, public Wi-Fi hotspots, and electrical vehicle charging stations, all fused together by advanced IoT applications.

Antaira Lights the Road to Smarter Cities with Managed Switch for Smart Poles

The Antaira LMP-1002G-SFP-T 10 Port Industrial Port Industrial PoE+ Gigabit Managed Ethernet Switch.

Managed Layer 3 Switch is NEMA TS2 Rated for Intelligent Transportation Systems.

To operate at full potential, Smart Poles require an optimal network design leveraging industrial-grade managed switches delivering bandwidth large enough for live streaming of video, along with PoE connectivity for powered devices, rugged environmental protection, and scalable port density to future-proof the edge of expanding Smart City networks.

Antaira Technologies, a global leading developer of industrial networking devices, is meeting those requirements with its LMP-1002G-SFP-T Layer 3 Managed Ethernet Switch featuring PoE+ (30W/port) on eight of its ten ports, plus two dual-rated SFP slots for Gigabit fiber connections. Robustly designed for urban outdoor deployment in environments ranging from -40° to 167° F, the switch is securely protected in a metal IP30-rated housing that is DIN-rail mountable for fast, cost-effective installations. High availability is achieved via ITU-T G.8032 ERPS that offers rapid detection and seamless recovery times if a link or node fails, in the order of 50ms. In addition, to best manage unpredictable network traffic, QoS prioritizes switch traffic according to user-specified criteria.

As streetlights increasingly become nodes on Smart City networks, power availability is critical. Antaira LMP-1002G-SFP-T switches comply with IEEE802.3at and IEEE802.3af Power over Ethernet (PoE) standards, boasting features such as Ping Alive, scheduled power cycles, power budgeting, and port settings to reliably host digital signage, IP cameras, smart meters, and environmental sensors. Importantly, the switch meets National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) TS2 standard for traffic control assemblies, ensuring that it will provide high network availability in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).

Antaira recognizes the growing sophistication of cyberattacks, and has incorporated an extensive suite of cyber security tools in LMP-1002G-SFP-T switches such as 802.1X Port-Based Network Access Control to protect which devices get connected to the network, and 802.1Q VLAN segmentation to isolate network traffic.
